Section Manager - Placemaking and Public Space Programming


Temporary Full-Time

The City of North Vancouver is seeking a creative and dynamic leader as the Section Manager - Placemaking and Public Space Programming within The Shipyards and Waterfront team. In this role you will oversee all placemaking and programming elements in City’s public spaces. The role reports to the Manager of The Shipyards and Waterfront and is part of an integrated parks and public spaces team within the City’s Engineering, Parks and Environment department. This positon is temporary full time for approximately two years.

You are results-oriented, used to a fast-paced environment, adaptable and skilled in placemaking activations. You are a collaborative team player who can foster and develop strong community and stakeholder relationships and are passionate about delivering innovative and authentic experiences in City’s public spaces.
 
Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing placemaking activations through special events, festivals and unique cultural experiences;
  • Developing City’s Special Events Policy that advance a sense of place in City’s public spaces;
  • Working cross-organizationally to support the overall goals for placemaking and activating the public realm;
  • Working with community to guide local development to create vibrant public spaces;
  • Monitoring, tracking and measuring the effectiveness of placemaking activities and events through appropriate metrics and analytics, including analyzing data for presentations;
  • Overseeing marketing and events budgets;
  • Interdepartmental relations, with Departments such as Communications, Fire, RCMP, North Vancouver Recreation Commission;
  • Liaising with partners and stakeholders;

 
This position will manage a small team of staff, coordinate schedules and administer contract services delivery.  Performs related duties as required.
 
Qualifications include a degree in creative industries, tourism hospitality, event management, place management, business, or related field, complemented by several years of related work experience. Significant knowledge of placemaking and urbanism, programming, event marketing and sponsorship together with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across a broad range of stakeholders is required.  Strong leadership skills built through demonstrated experience managing staff is also required.
 
During the recruitment process, applicants will be requested to provide a current Police Information Check (PIC). We offer an attractive remuneration and benefits package for this exempt position, including a compressed work schedule. The salary range is $108,804 - $126,840 annually (2024 rates).
