On November 29, 2024, SPS will become the police of jurisdiction, assuming responsibility for policing and law enforcement in Surrey.

SPS is working to redefine policing with innovative new approaches and community-based solutions. It’s an exciting time as SPS continues to expand our team with talented people who want to help shape the future of policing in Surrey. We have already hired over 400 employees and will grow to be one of the largest independent police services in Canada. Since day one, SPS has been intentional about building a culture that is inclusive, respectful, and supportive, with a strong focus on employee wellness and career development.

About the Role
SPS has an exciting opportunity for an Emergency and Operational Planning Coordinator (EOP) to join their Community Policing Bureau. The successful candidate will prepare, research, coordinate, organize and deliver programs and resources for citywide major planned and unplanned events including related activities and training, and emergency management. Considerable independence of judgment will be exercised within established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities include planning programs for events including business continuity plans, prevention, response and recovery; coordinating and scheduling members for operational support for events; coordinating and securing materials and resources required for programs in support of major events and emergency management; maintaining and tracking costs related to programs and assisting with invoicing to the appropriate sections; assisting with training and the preparation of materials related to programs and initiatives; responding to internal and external inquiries regarding special events; revising programs and plans based on policies, standards and regulations, compiling and maintaining plans, reports and documentation; liaising with other units and external parties in relation to execution of plans and events; participating in committees and projects; providing direction and oversight to staff and volunteers and performing related duties as required.

The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, work in a team setting and independently, have good organizational and time-management skills and exercise good judgment in performing the duties of the position. The incumbent will have knowledge of community event planning and must be able to remain current and stay breast of developments related to the work. Completion of a diploma program in a related discipline plus four (4) years of related experience in program management, project management or emergency management. An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
