Abstract:
This report introduces the concept of municipal natural asset management (MNAM). It provides a working definition of municipal natural assets as “the stocks of natural resources or ecosystems that contribute to the provision of one or more services required for the health, well-being, and long-term sustainability of a community and its residents”. The report supports communities in identifying and managing natural assets as a part of their infrastructure planning processes.
Useful to community planners, engineers and decision-makers, the report provides a brief and accessible introduction to MNAM, helps to identify natural assets as a sub-set of green infrastructure, and gives examples, case studies and tools.
