District of Chetwynd Mayors Report – June 20, 2022

Posting Date: September 16, 2022
Year Published: 2022
Abstract:

The month of May was very busy, and this is continuing into June. On May 26, I attended Doig Days at the Doig River First Nation Cultural Grounds.

Some of the activities they arranged included beaver skinning, moose hide scraping and getting the hide prepared for tanning, and preparing moose meat for drying.

All of School District 60 grade four students were invited to Doig Days. The kids and I were given a piece of dough on a stick to cook over fire (bannock on a stick). There were also hot dogs and juice for kids.

After the lunch we entered the Pavilion where a sacred fire was burning; the dancers danced around the fire while the drummers played traditional dance songs.

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) and Chetwynd broke ground on our new library on June 3rd. The Directors of the PRRD concluded an Indigenous Safety Training presented by Maugwa Clan Energy, Company Officer Stewart Cameron.

FCM was held in Regina Saskatchewan on June 2nd – 5th.
