CivicInfo BC is British Columbia's local government information hub.  We have operated this portal website since April 2000, providing a wide variety of tools and information resources for those who work, or have an interest, in the province's local government sector.

Based in Victoria, we are an incorporated not-for-profit society with a membership that includes nearly all local governments in the province. Our core values:
  • We are service-driven.
  • We are collaborative.
  • We are co-operative.
  • We are entrepreneurial.

History & Governance

In 1998, a needs assessment funded by the Union of BC Municipalities identified the need for a comprehensive, online local government information service.  To make this a reality, a steering committee of the province's major municipal organizations was assembled, and seed funding was secured.  Our founding partners, 1998 names, were:
  • BC Assessment
  • Local Government Institute, University of Victoria
  • Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Province of BC
  • Municipal Finance Authority of BC
  • Municipal Insurance Association of BC
  • Municipal Officers Association of BC
  • Union of BC Municipalities

Incorporation as a not-for-profit society followed in 2000, and the original partnership was soon expanded to include the Government Finance Officers Association of BC and the Municipal Information Systems Association of BC.  Between 2000 and 2012, each organization appointed a representative to the CivicInfo BC Board of Directors.  Rounding out the seventeen member Board were six representatives from the province's geographic regions, and two directors at large.

Following a governance review, the Board of Directors was streamlined in 2012.  Today, the Board consists of seven people, all elected at-large from across British Columbia.  Those who serve on the Board can be representatives of any regular member of the CivicInfo BC Society.
