Heavy Duty Mechanic, TQ


Temporary Part-Time ($41.33/hour – 2024 Rates) Pay Grade 11

The Public Works department is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic, TQ to join their team in a part-time capacity, working approximately two to four days per week. If you value working as part of a team and are talented in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles – including passenger cars, heavy equipment, and specialized mechanical equipment, we want to hear from you!

The Heavy Duty Mechanic, TQ performs skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the overhaul, repair, and maintenance of automotive and related power equipment in the shop and field. An employee of this class works under the general supervision of the Mechanic Foreman but uses considerable independent judgment in their work. Oral and written assignments are received from the Mechanic Foreman, who checks and tests the work in progress and upon completion for workmanship and conformance to desirable standards.

Our ideal candidate has completed Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented by technical courses such as Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certification, as well as considerable general and heavy-duty mechanical experience, including diesel mechanics at the journeyman level, a valid and subsisting Class 3 BC Driver’s license with air brake endorsement, and an applicable mechanical trade certificate. This position is represented by CUPE Local 374.
