Executive Director Position 

 
OVERVIEW

POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director is responsible for leading the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of the overall management of the day-to-day operations of the Xwsepsum Government Administration, and is accountable to Council for all their staff conduct and achievement. This position reports directly to the Esquimalt Nation Chief & Council and is responsible for carrying out complex community development planning activities, sourcing and applying for funding opportunities and the oversight the Executive team to ensure the functionality of all administrative departments.
 
The Executive Director works with Chief & Council in developing and implementing governance functions, policies, processes, and strategies. This position develops and maintains relationships within the provincial & federal government and external agencies and uses exemplary project management skills and a high degree of tact when dealing with confidential financial, political and personnel matters. In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for carrying out duties in alignment with the Nation’s various laws and policies, such as the Financial Administration Law (FAL), Chief & Council Policy and Procedure Manual, Human Resource Manual, Land Code and the Authorization and Delegation Matrix, etc.
 
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of Esquimalt/Indigenous people and culture, and bring awareness and knowledge related to First Nation treaties within Canada. As a model of transparent and high integrity leadership, the Executive Director will also bring:

  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision- making and reporting.
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience.
  • A minimum of 2-years’ experience in sourcing funding from government agencies.
  • A minimum of 3-years’ experience working in an Indigenous community.
