Organizational Profile
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. The transition from the RCMP to SPS is well underway and SPS has spent the past three years building a local, modern, accountable police service for Surrey residents. On November 29, 2024, SPS will become the police of jurisdiction, assuming responsibility for policing and law enforcement in Surrey.

SPS is working to redefine policing with innovative new approaches and community-based solutions. It’s an exciting time as SPS continues to expand our team with talented people who want to help shape the future of policing in Surrey. We have already hired over 400 employees and will grow to be one of the largest independent police services in Canada. Since day one, SPS has been intentional about building a culture that is inclusive, respectful and supportive, with a strong focus on employee wellness and career development.

About the Role
SPS has an exciting opportunity for a Cybersecurity Analyst 2 to join the Support Services Bureau. As part of this dynamic team, the successful candidate will be part of the team responsible for a variety of cyber security functions including but not limited to maintaining and updating firewall rules; managing intrusion prevention systems; configuration of anti-virus engine policies and register malware; configuration of VPN tunnels and remote access rules; and triaging of Advanced Threat Detection (ATD) alerts and tune detection rules. In addition, this position is responsible for managing and maintaining web content filter rulesets, conducting vulnerability scanning for PCI and internet facing systems, conducting cyber security investigations, and responding to real or suspected cyber security incidents.

With strong written and verbal communication skills, the candidate will have a proven ability to document and communicate cyber security processes, risk-mitigation plans, and training for a variety of users, team members, and stakeholder groups. This role will also require research capabilities and sourcing of information related to maintaining cyber security awareness and identifying risks in an evolving and complex technological environment. This work is matched with someone that is highly organized and solutions-focused with an ability to think critically. The candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with users, team members, and key stakeholders in supporting SPS’s IT infrastructure and strategic IT priorities.

The successful candidate should possess a working knowledge in antivirus, IPS, and firewalls configuration; email, web, and cloud security; identity and access management; public key infrastructure, encryption, and tokenization; vulnerability scanning and penetration testing; security threat and risk assessment and threat modeling; security event and incident management; wired and wireless network access control; industrial controls security; mobile security and mobile device management; and PCI compliance and micro segmentation. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems plus three (3) years of cyber security experience or a diploma in Computer Science or Information Systems plus six (6) years of cyber security experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Eligibility to obtain a CISSP, GIAC, or equivalent security certification is considered an asset.
