Organizational Profile
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. The transition from the RCMP to SPS is well underway and SPS has spent the past three years building a local, modern, accountable police service for Surrey residents. On November 29, 2024, SPS will become the police of jurisdiction, assuming responsibility for policing and law enforcement in Surrey.

SPS is working to redefine policing with innovative new approaches and community-based solutions. It’s an exciting time as SPS continues to expand our team with talented people who want to help shape the future of policing in Surrey. We have already hired over 400 employees and will grow to be one of the largest independent police services in Canada. Since day one, SPS has been intentional about building a culture that is inclusive, respectful and supportive, with a strong focus on employee wellness and career development.

About the Role
Reporting to a senior member of the Human Resources team in the Support Services Bureau, the Human Resources Assistant (Exempt) will assist in supporting various HR functions including recruitment, occupational health and safety, disability management, general administration, coordination of personnel files, production of reports, and executing other employee related initiatives such as employee events and ceremonies. Working with members of the Human Resources team, the successful incumbent will provide support through the entire cycle of recruitment including preparation of job postings, coordination of testing and interviews, data entry of new employees, onboarding, and related activities. The incumbent will respond to employment related inquiries from staff and members of the public, assist in administration of HR projects, programs, and initiatives, participate in the review of administrative processes, and provide recommendations for improvements ensuring compliance with work protocols and alignment with SPS’ policies and provincial law.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, a strong team player that values collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers, customer-focused with the ability to understand and anticipate internal and external customer needs and deliver an exceptional experience. The incumbent will also be a self-starter who can work independently to meet deadlines, with an ability to work with confidential material in a manner demonstrating sound judgment with knowledge of Human Resources foundations and functions. Completion of a certificate in Human Resources or a related field plus a minimum three (3) years of relevant HR experience, and proficiency with MS Office programs and some exposure to HR systems. Progressively responsible experience providing administrative support in a public sector organization is an asset.

The annual salary range for this role is $61,000 - $71,765. Applicants will be required to obtain and maintain the relevant level of security clearance. When joining the SPS team, civilian employees can expect to receive a competitive compensation and benefits package, career training and development opportunities, and access to a wide range of health and wellness programs designed to ensure employees are cared for and supported.
