About the Position
The District of Tumbler Ridge is actively seeking a dedicated, experienced professional to join our team in the crucial role of FireSmart Coordinator. This is a grant-funded, temporary position for up to 48 weeks, with the potential for extension, subject to the approval of continued grant funding.

The FireSmart Coordinator plays a pivotal role in facilitating FireSmart-related activities within the District of Tumbler Ridge. The position is instrumental in ensuring that the FireSmart activities are supported, developed, and implemented in accordance with Provincial guidelines, as well as with the direction and policy provided by the District of Tumbler Ridge.
 
The FireSmart Program Coordinator serves as the primary contact for the Tumbler Ridge FireSmart Program, creating communications, organizing fuel mitigation events, and providing guidance on implementing FireSmart principles. They coordinate home ignition assessments, oversee contractors and volunteers, collaborate with various agencies, and facilitate educational opportunities for staff. Additionally, they lead FireSmart 101 sessions.

This is an exempt position. The hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., although evenings and weekends will be required to attend and facilitate community events and engagement. The Salary for this position is $60.87 hourly (35 hrs. per week) plus an additional 15% in lieu of benefits and vacation.

Candidate Requirements:

  • REQUIRED - Two years of related leadership experience, including supervisory, facilitation, and contract management experience.
  • REQUIRED - Knowledge of fire prevention, FireSmart, and emergency preparedness programs.
  • REQUIRED - Knowledge of fire and public safety education, fire service operation, and emergency management.
  • REQUIRED - Ability to effectively deliver educational and outreach materials to a variety of audiences
  • REQUIRED - Ability to effectively deliver educational and outreach materials to a variety of audiences
  • REQUIRED - Some knowledge of Microsoft and social media application software.
  • REQUIRED - Completion of the Wildfire Risk Reduction Course and FireSmart 101
  • REQUIRED - Local FireSmart Representative qualification or willingness to attain.
  • REQUIRED - Valid BC Driver’s License Class 5
