Abstract:
This discussion paper introduces the concept of collaborative watershed governance (CWG), identifies key factors for success, and uses British Columbian case studies to showcase what works for sharing decision-making at a watershed scale. When done right, collaborative watershed governance offers communities “efficient, credible and cost effective means of developing integrated and robust solutions to complex problems”.

Targeted at collaborative watershed organisations, local governments, First Nations, NGOs, and others working towards watershed-based solutions and decision-making models, the discussion paper gives local examples to help others learn what factors to consider in designing their own watershed governance solutions. The case studies are particularly useful, as they provide insight into the ways these organizations actually work, from Board structures to funding models.
